PREPARATION
Resume writing
Your resume should be easy to read and provide key information on yourself, your goals, and your career to date.
• The first page should have your personal details along with a short paragraph detailing your career objectives over the next five years.
• The bulk of your resume should detail your career history starting with your last position first, each position description should detail length of time in that position and a concise description of your responsibilities.
• Following your career history you should list at least three referees, these will ideally be former immediate supervisors or managers. You must include their current position and contact details.
Your interview with Frontline Retail
The objectives of your interview with Frontline Retail are:
• To determine your level of skill and experience in specific areas of retail (this will be done by asking questions about real life situations you have been in and what you have done)
• To provide you with a general overview of any position or positions we have that may be suitable for you.
You may be asked questions you cannot answer, be honest, and frank with your answers. Your Frontline Retail consultant is not trying to fit you into a particular position, but is determining what position, or positions, are suitable for you. We may have many other positions available that suit you as well.
A very important part of the interview process is understanding your salary expectations. Your Frontline Retail consultant needs a very clear picture of your salary expectations. Your consultant will also discuss what level of skills and experience employers require for the salary you want. Part of the interview process is to openly discuss what salary is realistic given your experience and skills. We cannot place people in positions based on their salary expectations, placement is based on relevant skills and experience.
Reference checking
If you have the relevant skills, experience and realistic salary expectations for a position or positions we currently have available, your referees will be contacted after your interview with Frontline Retail. You will not be put forward for any positions until you have been reference checked with at least two of your referees.
Once your references are checked you will be contacted by telephone and your Frontline Retail consultant will ask you if you wish to be put forward for a particular position or positions. Your consultant will give you a general outline of these positions providing information such as the company name, location, and salary.
PERFORMANCE
Your interview with a retail company
If you wish to be put forward for a particular position with a Company, your consultant will organise a time for your interview with that Company and advise you on your interview presentation and other preparations you need to make. You will find some helpful advice and tips on this website..
Dressing for success
The first impression you make on a potential employer is the most important one. The first judgment an interviewer makes is going to be based on how you look and what you are wearing. This is especially true in retail where you are in the public eye and your presentation is the first thing a customer will notice. Dress in professional style clothing and pay particular attention to your personal grooming. If you are being interviewed for a particular company, it is a good idea to visit some of their stores to gauge their expectations of personal presentation.
FOLLOW THROUGH
After your interview with a retail company, it is very important to call your Frontline Retail consultant and discuss with them your feelings and any outcomes from the interview. Your Frontline Retail consultant will want to speak with you before they speak with the company that interviewed you. Your consultant will then speak with the company who interviewed you and establish whether they wish to offer you a position. If they do, your Frontline Retail consultant will contact you with the details of the offer and negotiate on your behalf.
